Mr. McGirk was in his 81st year, and made his home with his daughter, Mrs. J. H. Hanley, in Duncansville. On Friday, the family had prepared to move to this city, and Mr. McGirk came with one of the teams as far as Gaysport, where he intended to take a car for this city. There being no car at the terminus, he stepped into the Antler hotel. While standing there, a car came and he turned to Carl Cadwell [sic] and asked if that was a Fifth avenue car. Mr. Caldwell looked and turned to tell him that it was not and was horrified to find that the man had fallen to the floor and had expired. Proprietor John B. Small called Dr. F. R. Shoemaker, who pronounced the man dead. Deputy Coroner Chester C. Rothrock was called and directed that the body be turned over to T. B. McFarland to be prepared for burial. The body was brought to this city where interment will be made. Altoona Times, Altoona, Pa., Monday Morning, November 4, 1918
