McGough, flagman of local freight west, at Benscreek, and fatally injured him. The freight had stopped at Benscreek to do some shifting, and Mr. McGough had gone back to flag the train. When the shifting was done he was called in by his engineer, and turned about to retrace his steps to his train. He was walking between the tracks when the engine of the mail train whistled, and he must have become bewildered or confused, for he stepped on the track directly in front of the mail. He realized his mistake just before the engine was upon him and had time enough to step on the end of the ties outside the rail, but the engine struck him on his right side and knocked him down. His right leg was broken near the ankle, his head was badly cut, his back bruised, and his breast hurt. He also sustained internal injuries. He was brought to his home in East Conemaugh, where he was attended by physicians. His condition was regarded from the first as quite critical, and hence his death which followed at half-past 10 o'clock yesterday forenoon, was not a surprise. He was conscious to the last. Deceased was 51 years of age. He leaves a wife and six or seven children. His wife's maiden name was Mary Conrad. She was raised in Newry, Blair county. Mr. McGough was born and raised about two miles from Summerhill. He had been on the Pennsylvania railroad for about twenty-five years.
