On Saturday morning, Michael McGraw, Michael Fitzharris, Jerry Keenan, Robert Rumpting and another miner, whose name we failed to learn, were going into the ore mine to commence their daily toil. All five were seated on an ore car or dump that is let done [down] the inclined plane with a rope. Whenever half the distance the rope broke and, there being nothing to check the descent of the car, it dashed down with almost lightning speed. All the men, with the exception of Michael McGraw, aged about 60 years, succeeded in getting off the car. Mr. McGraw was dashed against the rocks fracturing his skull, besides inflicting other injuries which proved fatal. He died at 2 o'clock the same day.
