Was Striking Matches to Amuse Himself and His Clothing Caught Fire. Yesterday morning Earl McGregor, aged 3 years, son of Harry McGregor, of 2513 Oak avenue, was badly burned while playing with matches. The boy was in the yard amusing himself by striking matches he had taken from the house. His clothes finally caught fire and his cries were first heard by Harry Gairth, a neighbor lad aged 13, who leaped the fence dividing him from the suffering child and set to work to extinguish the fire. He was soon joined by Mrs. McGregor and they finally succeeded in putting a stop to the burning of the child's clothing. The little fellow was badly burned about the face, neck and breast, and his eyebrows and hair were scorched. He will probably recover. Morning Tribune, Saturday, June 24, 1899 BOY DIED OF HIS BURNS.
