On Saturday last John McGuire, an employe in the shops, received injuries which have since resulted fatally. He was standing looking over the edge of some part of an engine when a party of men came along the track, pushing a car of coal in front of them for use in the blacksmith shop. They did not notice McGuire, who was caught and badly crushed. He dropped to the ground in great pain, and was picked up and carried home. Dr. Christy was called in and made an examination of the man's injuries. They consisted of a strained back and several broken limbs. The lungs were also injured. The man was sensible after the accident, but no [sic] reaction set in and he died in the course of a few hours. He leaves a wife and large family of children to mourn their loss. The family lives at Sixth avenue and the plank road, southwest of the city. Two brothers of McGuire have been killed in Altoona, one at the weigh scales and one in the shop. The funeral will take place this afternoon, at 3 o'clock. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Monday, April 26, 1880
