All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _______________________________________________ JAMES M'KERIHAN FATALLY SHOCKED James William McKerihan of 2319 Fourth avenue Altoona, a member of the firm of the Union Roofing company of 1807 Ninth avenue, was fatally shocked when he came in contact with a high tension line of the Penn Central Light and Power company at Twin Rocks, Cambria county, at 9:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, his death occurring at the Memorial hospital in Johnstown at 5:40 o'clock in the evening. In company with several employes (sic) of the firm, Mr. McKerihan had gone to Twin Rocks in the morning to make repairs to the roof of the Penn Central's substation located there. The wires carrying 45000 volts were about six feet above the roof and Mr. McKerihan had warned the other men of the danger. While the work was in progress, Mr. McKerihan in some manner came too close to the wire and was drawn into the current as a result of which he was badly burned over the body. He was given first aid at Nanty-Glo and was then hurriedly taken to Johnstown and admitted to the memorial hospital. The whole party were in danger for a short time as his brother Drew made an attempt to aid the unfortunate young man but was restrained by his fellow workmen. A message was sent to Altoona and J. E. Shute, assistant superintendent of the Penn Central company went to Johnstown. The young man's uncle, School Director J. C. McKerihan, head of the Union Roofing company, was also notified, as was the wife of the young man who was visiting here at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Campbell. G. Ross Hagey took Mrs. McKerihan and her parents to Altoona from which place Joseph McKerihan took them on to Johnstown, arriving before James passed away. - this line illegible - John and Sadie McKerihan, formerly residing on a farm east of Martinsburg, now residing in Alberta, Canada. He was born in Altoona, June 24, 1892, and is survived by his wife and one son, James Campbell McKerihan, his parents and these brothers and sisters: Mrs. Frank Dandois and Drew McKerihan, of Altoona, Helen, George, Robert and Merril, of Canada. He was a progressive and energetic young man and had been associated with his uncle for a number of years, being admitted as a partner some time ago. He was a member of the Simpson Methodist church. The body was prepared for burial by a Johnstown undertaker and was brought to Altoona and taken in charge by Funeral Director N. A. Stevens. Public funeral services were held at 7:30 Thursday evening, at Simpson Methodist church. Private interment from the home Friday morning at 10:30 o'clock. Burial at Martinsburg.
