Mrs. Anna Elizabeth McKiernan, wife of Thomas McKiernan, the well known Pennsylvania railroad shop foreman, died rather suddenly at her home, 1326 Third avenue, at 6.20 o'clock Saturday evening. She had been in failing health for several years, and for the past three weeks had been suffering with la grippe. On Saturday evening, however, she was apparently much better, and ate supper with considerable appetite. Shortly afterward she was attacked with hemorrhage from the lungs, dying in about twenty minutes. Mrs. McKiernan was born near Cassville, Huntingdon county, January 31, 1835. Her maiden name was Anna Elizabeth Houck. January 5, 1855, she was married to Mr. McKiernan and came with him to Altoona in the fall of 1862. She resided here ever since. Beside her husband she is survived by these children: William F., Thomas E., Cyrillus G., Paul L., Fannie, Grave V., Mary F., and Anna B., all of Altoona. The following brothers and sisters also survive: Isaac C. Houck, Thomas L. Houck and James H. Houck, of Altoona; William A. Houck, of Philadelphia; Samuel D. Houck, of Washington, D.C.; Dorsey B. Houck, of Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. Catharine Shollar and Mrs. James Stevens, of Altoona. Four grandchildren also survive. Mrs. McKiernan was a Catholic by faith and a member of Sacred Heart congregation. She was a lady of excellent Christian character and her life was marked by deeds of charity and benevolence. Her devotion to her family which was her chief charm, will make her loss irreparable.
