McLaughlin, esq., formerly a lawyer in this city, died at his home in Johnstown at 1 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon. Death was the result of bronchitis, with which he had been a sufferer for three years. In speaking of Mr. McLaughlin the Johnstown Tribune says: Deceased was the son of Hon. Daniel and Margery McLaughlin. He was born at Tunnelhill, this county, on the 15th of July, 1860. When he was a year old the family removed to this city. When he had attained the proper age he attended the German Catholic schools in Conemaugh borough. Later he was a student under Mr. Michael Sweeney. Subsequently he attended a commercial college in Baltimore, then to St. Francis college, Loretto, this county, finally graduating when about 18 years of age, at St. Vincent's college, near Latrobe. He at once entered his father's office as a student at law, and when merely 21 years of age was admitted to the bar of the county court, being the youngest attorney ever admitted to practice in the courts of Cambria county. He remained with his father until three or four years ago, when he decided to locate in Altoona. He opened an office there and was gathering about him a fair practice, when, at the solicitation of his family and friends, he returned to Johnstown, and he and his father formed a partnership, which was terminated by death to-day. That he was a young man of excellent parts, of keen intellect, and of bright promise is conceded by all who knew him, and those who knew him best were quickest to discern his better parts and award him the credit he merited for thoroughness in his profession and generosity and nobleness in his life.
