M'Laughlin, a laborer by occupation, was run over, in the Yard at this place, on Wednesday forenoon last, and so severely injured that he died in an hour or two thereafter. It appears that the unfortunate man was crossing the track just at the time a portion of a freight train was "dropping down," and either through a failure to see the approaching cars, or inability to get out of the way, he was knocked down, the cars passing over his legs, severing them from his body and otherwise injuring him. He was carried to his home in the East Ward, where death soon relieved him of his sufferings. The deceased was one of the first settlers of our town, and bore a respectable character. - He leaves several grown-up children. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Saturday, April 21, 1866, page 3
