McMullen Killed at RM Tower While Performing a Kindness The scriptures say, "In the midst of life we are in death," and truly that was a fact in young McMullen's sad accident on Friday evening when he met death in the railroad yards near Tyrone. He had been called on 404 and his train was standing on a side track near RM tower waiting for a fast freight to go by, when McMullen noticed a cow walking on the same track that the train was on. He hurriedly left the car he was standing on, and started to chase the animal away when the train hit him. The back of his head was crushed in and it is thought that death was almost instant as he had passed away when picked up by some of his fellow workmen. The body was taken to the surgery at the station, then to Undertaker Graham's Morgue on Logan Avenue, where it was prepared for burial. Young McMullen was a kind hearted young man and had many friends in Tyrone who are sorry to hear of his untimely death. Francis P. McMullen was born at Honestown July 9, 1881, making him age 27 years, 2 months and ten days of age. He was a son of Francis P. and of the late Sarah Jane McMullen. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, father, one sister Mary Elizabeth, and a brother James Francis McMullen. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Birmingham and of the Railroad relief. The funeral occurred on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Services held at the McMullen home at Honestown, conducted by Reverend Gordon Gray of the Methodist Church of Birmingham. Interment at Birmingham.
