Robert Lawrence McNeal, Sr., 87, of 653 Washington Ave., Tyrone, Pa. died at 3:10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004 at Moran's Home, Bellwood. He was born May 4, 1917 in Tyrone, a son of Martin A. and Isabel (Wolfe) McNeal. He was married Nov. 10, 1946 at the Tyrone First English Lutheran Church to Mildred I. Krider. He is survived by his wife Mildred of 58 years, two sons and two daughters: Robert L. McNeal, Jr. of Tampa, Florida; Michael A. McNeal and his wife Cindy of Tyrone; Christine A. Smith and her husband Harry of Bellwood; Sharon Leap and her husband Brian of Bellwood; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a sister, Marilynn L. Patton of Tyrone. He was a member of the Tyrone First Presbyterian Church. He received the Eagle Scout Award in the Boys Scouts of America under the leadership of "Uncle Joe Porter." He was a graduate of Tyrone Area High School in 1935. He was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Tyrone Elks Lodge #212, a member of V.F.W. #4559 and the American Legion Post 281. He was a four year Army Veteran of WWII, serving two and a half years in Iran with the Persian Gulf Command. He retired from the Army as a Captain. He was a lifelong musician playing clarinet and saxophone in the "Dreamtime Serenaders" and smaller bands during the 40s and 50s. He enjoyed singing, sports and billiards with his friends at the Elks Club. He retired in 1984 from the Chicago Rivet and Machine Company, Tyrone. Private graveside services will be held at Blair Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were by the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone. Tyrone Daily Herald, December 11, 2004
