A Little Child Fatally Burned Yesterday Afternoon. Minnie, the little daughter of George and Anna Meier, died at 12:30 o'clock last night, from the effects of burns received yesterday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Meier reside at 1114 1/2 Fourth avenue. About 3:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon Mrs. Meier went over to her next door neighbor's, leaving Minnie and an elder sister, aged about 4 years, together in the house. During her brief absence the elder child climbed upon a table and procured some matches, which she lighted and unintentionally set fire to her little sister's clothes. The cries of the children brought the mother home, but when she arrived the little girl was enveloped in flames. The distracted mother picked her up and ran out in the yard screaming loudly, and with the assistance of the neighbors finally extinguished the flames, but not until the child was terribly burned. The skin was burned from her cheeks and her abdomen was roasted. Dr. Haberacker gave what attention was possible and the little one lingered till the hour mentioned when death kindly ended her suffering. Minnie was aged 1 year, 10 months and 19 days. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in St. Mary's cemetery. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Thursday Evening, March 30, 1893
