When found, his life extinct, but his body was yet warm. Dr. D. S. Hayes was immediately summoned, who applied the usual restoratives, but all in vain. Mr. Meintel, for some months past, has been suffering with dyspepsia, and was in low spirits, and laboring under partial derangement, and his friends feared he might commit self-destruction. Only about a half hour before he was found hanging, his wife left him in the house, for the purpose of seeing his married daughter, and having her attendance on him that night. When she returned, he was not in the house, and after searching in various places, he was found as above stated. Mr. Meintel, was a well-to-do German, and much respected by all his acquaintances, and will be missed and regretted by many friends. He was about 55 years of age, and leaves a wife and married daughter. At the request of Coroner Humes, an inquest was held on the body, by J. D. Leet, Esq., of this place, composed of the following jury: David Over, Patrick Corboy, Gabriel Bender, Martin Morgan, Ferdinand Bender and Christian Cliber. After hearing several witnesses, the jury rendered the following verdict - "That deceased came to his death by hanging himself, whilst laboring under mental derangement." The Register, Hollidaysburg, Pa., Wednesday, May 29, 1872
