DR. GEO. MELLEN PASSES AWAY AT HOSPITAL

  Dr. George Mellen, aged 34 years, a prominent dentist of Los Angeles, 
Calif., who was interested in the Glass Casket corporation, which is 
erecting plants here, died at the Altoona hospital at 11 o'clock last 
night of pneumonia, following a short illness.  Dr. Mellen was admitted 
to the institution last Sunday. 
  The young dentist, who is related to the Mellens of Pittsburgh, came 
to Altoona almost a year ago with a Mr. Manning, who is interested in 
the Glass Casket corporation, and he, too, became financial[ly] 
interested in the proposition.  He intended disposing of his business 
and holdings in Los Angeles and moving to this city.
  Dr. Mellen was taken ill last week at his hotel, and on Sunday it was 
decided to remove him to the Altoona hospital, his condition becoming 
extremely critical.  He has a wife in California.  No funeral 
arrangements have been made.
