Death was attributed to apoplexy. Mr. Mengel was for thirty-five years connected with the Reading railroad, having retired sixteen years ago as an engineer. Until retirement, he was a resident of Pine Grove, Schuylkill county, where he was affiliated with the Pine Grove Masonic fraternity No. 409. He was also a member of the Reading railroad relief. Five sons and one daughter survive, William A. Mengel, at whose home death occurred; Howard of Pottsville; John of Spokane, Wash.; Roy of Ocean City, and Claude and Miss Edith Mengel of Philadelphia. Mrs. Mengel died twenty-one years ago. Funeral services will be held Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock at the Roher and Mauk undertaking establishment from where the body will be shipped to Pine Grove for services and burial Thursday afternoon. _____ MRS. EVA MENGEL Mrs. Eva C. Mengel of 721 Seventh avenue, Juniata, died at 8 p.m. Thursday evening. She was born at Pinegrove, Pa., May 8, 1872 the daughter of John and Emma [Barr] Koch. She was the widow of W. A. Mengel who died Feb. 6, 1946. She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren faith. Surviving are the following daughters: Mrs. Dorothy Reager of Altoona; Alberta Mengel and Reba Mengel, both at home; Mrs. Thelma Mays and Mrs. Alfreda Rhodes, both of Altoona and Mrs. Vivian Lamade of Juniata; the following sons: John Mengel at home; C.R. Mengel of Tyrone, H. R. Mengel of Philadelphia, and J. W. Mengel of Honolulu, Hawaii; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Lydia Holtzman of Philadelphia. Friends will be received at the home after 6 o'clock Friday evening. Altoona Mirror, Friday, May 6, 1949 _____ WILLIAM MENGEL William Adam Mengel of 721 Seventh avenue, Juniata, died at his home at 9:05 o'clock last night. He was born on May 17, 1872, the son of Alex and Sarah [Wintermuth] Mengel. Surviving are his wife, Eva [Koch] Mengel, and the following sons and daughters: John, at home, Raymond of Tyrone, Harry of Villa Ridge, Ill., James of Honolulu, Mrs. Dorothy Rager of Juniata, Mrs. Alberta Rhodes and Mrs. Thelma Mayes of Altoona, Mrs. Vivian Lamade of Juniata, Miss Alfarata of Altoona and Miss Reva, at home; one sister, Miss Edith Mengel of Baltimore; three brothers, Howard of Bloomsburg, Floyd of Philadelphia and Ray of Ocean City, N.J., and 15 grandchildren. Mr. Mengel retired from the Pennsylvania railroad in July 1937, after serving 326 years. Friends will be received at the family home after 7 o'clock this evening. MENGEL - Funeral services for William Adam Mengel of 721 Seventh avenue, Juniata, will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home in charge of Rev. M. S. Bittner.
