(BALDY) MENTCH Of 1804 Eleventh street, died unexpectedly at his home at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. He was born Feb. 14, 1887, in Altoona, a son of William H. and Lavinia (Smith) Mentch. He was united in marriage with Ethel Prough. Mr. Mentch was of the Methodist faith and a member of the Frohsinn Singing society. He retired from the paint shop, Altoona works, Pennsylvania railroad, in 1942. Mr. Mentch was a veteran baseball player during his career with the car shop department. He was a pitcher for the Car Shop team that won numerous P.R.R. Clerks league titles. Surviving are his wife, two sons, Kenneth J. of Lansing, Ill. and William of Altoona; one daughter, Mrs. Delores Moore of Naples, Fla; one sister Mrs. Ida Lingafelt of Altoona, and four grandchildren. Mr. Mentch will repose at the V. L. Stevens funeral home after 7 o'clock tomorrow evening. He held the heavy hitters of the R. S. down to six hits and struck out six men, giving only one base on balls.
