Mr. Jeremiah Mentzer, well known throughout Blair county as one of its most respected residents, died at his home in Frankstown yesterday morning at 3.30 o'clock, of ills incident to his advanced years. The deceased was born on April 19, 1817. He spent his early years in Bedford county, coming to Blair county and making it his home in Frankstown in 1871. He followed the occupation of a miller, and prosperity crowned his industrious labors in these pursuits. In 1880 he retired from business and his mill has been successfully operated since that time by his two sons F. and I. Mentzer. He was a member of the Geeseytown Lutheran church, a kind, indulgent husband and parent and an exemplary citizen. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mary, and nine children, viz: Charles and George, of Schuyler, Neb.; Mrs. Mary Fluke, of Pittsburg, Pa.; Mrs. Emma Wertz, of Altoona; Irwin, Frank and Albert, of Frankstown; W. S. Mentzer of Scotch Valley, and Samuel S. Mentzer, of Geeseytown. He is also survived by one brother and two sisters, namely, John Mentzer, of McKee's Gap; Mrs. Elizabeth Mentzer, of Martinsburg, and Mrs. Watson, of Gettysburg. The funeral services will be held in the Lutheran church at Geeseytown on Monday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will be made in the Geeseytown cemetery. Friends from a distance can come on the Hollidaysburg branch train, leaving Altoona at 8.05 a.m. Morning Tribune, Saturday, January 27, 1900 FRANKSTOWN FACTS. The funeral of Mr. Jeremiah Mentzer, on Monday, was very large. Mr. Mentzer was one of the oldest residents of this place and was aged 82 years, 8 months and 7 days. He was a member of the Geeseytown Lutheran church and was held in high esteem by all his acquaintances. He is survived by his aged wife and the following named children: Charles and George, of Nebraska; Mrs. Oliver Fluke, of Pittsburg; Mrs. Emma Wertz, of Altoona; Albert, of Frankstown; Frank, Irvin, Scott and Samuel, of Frankstown township, and also by a large number of grandchildren.
