Headline:  Apoplexy Caused His Demise At Sixteenth Street Home
The happy family circle of Mr. and Mrs. William Meredith on West Sixteenth 
street was suddenly broken on Sunday just at the noon hour when the husband 
and father passed into the eternal world.  Mr. Meredith attended prayer 
services at the First Presbyterian church Wednesday evening and then met with 
the Evangelistic committee in an after meeting.  At that time he complained of 
having a cold.  Thursday grip developed, but his condition was not considered 
at all dangerous.  On Sunday morning while conversing with members of his 
family, he suffered a stroke apoplexy and never regained consciousness, 
falling peacefully asleep at 12:05 o'clock.
William Sanford Meredith was a son of the late William Barley and Emma Maltern 
Meredith.  He was born in Tyrone, March 10, 1873 and resided here all his 
life.  On March 29, 1899 he was united in holy marriage with Miss Sarah 
Florence Moffitt who with the son and daughter survive to mourn; William J and 
Miss Gladys at home and Mrs. Harold Beringer of Logan avenue and Thirteenth 
street.  He is also survived by two brothers, David H., St. of Tyrone and John 
T. of Altoona.
Mr. Meredith had been employed by the West Virginia Pulp and Paper company for 
a number of years.  He was recognized as a faithful, efficient employee and 
respected by officers and fellow employees of the company.  He was a man of 
splendid Christian character and was prepared for the great change that 
occurred Sunday.  He was a deacon of the First Presbyterian church and 
assistant superintendent of the Presbyterian chapel.  He was making big 
preparations for the evangelistic campaign that will begin next week in the 
Presbyterian church.  He was a man in every sense of the word and esteemed by 
all who knew him well.
Mr. Meredith was also a member of Good Will Council No 42, Junior, Order 
United American Mechanics, Sinking Spring Lodge, No. 127, Knights of Pythias, 
the Modern Woodmen of the world and the W.V. P. & P. Mill Relief Association.
On Wednesday afternoon at 8 o'clock Rev. Francis Shunk Downs will conduct the 
funeral services at the home on West Sixteenth street.  Interment will be made 
in Grandview cemetery.
