GWIN Died at the residence of her son, J. Alex. Gwin, in Antis township, on Wednesday, at the advanced age of 97 years and 6 days. Her home for many years was at Mountaindale, where her son, John Gwin, still resides, but for some time she had lived with the son at whose home she died. She was a life-long member of the Baptist church. The funeral services were held at Asbury church this morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by her old friend and former pastor, Rev. W. Holt, of Bellwood, assisted by Rev. Samuel Blair. Interment was made in Asbury cemetery. Altoona Mirror, Friday, September 8, 1899, page 8 MRS. ELIZABETH MERRYMAN Died near Elizabeth Furnace, Blair county, September 8, 1899, at the home of her son, J. A. Gwin, at the age of 91 years and 6 days. She was born near St. Augustine, Cambria county. She was a daughter of the Revolution, her father having been a soldier of 1776. Her youngest son, J. A. Gwin, was a soldier in the Civil war and the standard bearer of the Seventy-sixth regiment, P.V. She professed faith in Christ under the preaching of Rev. David Williams, at Hollidaysburg, and was baptized in 1834, when 26 years of age. She was an active, devoted and useful Christian woman and had an abiding trust and good hope through the grace of Christ. She was twice married. James Gwin was her first husband, by whom she leaves a daughter and two sons, viz: Catharine Glasgow, of Cambria county; John Gwin, of Mountaindale, Cambria county, and J. A. Gwin, of Antis township, Blair county. She also leaves twenty-eight grandchildren, fifty-eight great- grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, making five generations. Rev. W. S.
