At 12.50 o'clock yesterday afternoon, Jacob Metz, a well known resident of this city, died at the home of his son, Letter Carrier Robert H. Metz, with whom he resided, of paralysis. For two years he had been confined to the house and for the past two months was confined to his bed. Deceased was born in Williamsburg, December 26, 1826. His ancestors were early settlers in that town. He came to Altoona in 1867 and entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad company as a painter. He followed his occupation until compelled to relinquish all work on account of ill health. He was a regular attendant of the Methodist Episcopal church, a man of good character and highly esteemed by a host of friends. He was a kind and indulgent father and all his life was devoted to his home and family. He was married to Leah Dunlap, of Centre county, a number of years ago. She preceded him to the grave six years ago. He is survived by these children: Walter L., of Hollidaysburg; Mrs. George Shell, of Williamsburg; Robert H., of Altoona, and Newton S., of Williamsburg. The funeral will take place Friday afternoon, services to be conducted at the house at 3 o'clock by Rev. O. C. Roth. Interment in Fairview cemetery. Morning Tribune, Thursday, March 1, 1900
