Metz, a Pennsylvania railroad brakeman employed in the lower yard at Altoona, met with an accident shortly before 10 o'clock Monday night by which he was instantly killed. The fatality occurred near W. J. tower in the lower end of the yard. Metz, who was a member of the crew of which W. S. Vanzant is conductor, was taking a car down the ladder when he was knocked from the car by its colliding with a draft of cars. He fell to the track, the wheels passing over the upper part of his chest, crushing out his life. Metz, who was about 28 years of age, had been an employee of the company for some time past.
