Metzgar, 87, of 1112 20th Ave., who had been a Blair County Motor Club director for 10 years, died at 7.30 p.m. yesterday, June 5, Mr. Metzgar had been a machinist in the manufacturing and tool room of the Pennsylvania Railroad's Altoona works. He retired in March 1951, after 48 years' service. He served as vice chairman of the Brotherhood of Railroad Shop Crafts of the Altoona Works from 1944 to 1950. Mr. Metzgar was a lifetime member of the First Lutheran Church and the Mizpah Bible Class. He was a former councilman of the Church from 1944 to 1947 and a former officer of the Mizpah Class. He was director of family and children services in the church for 25 years. He was born at Altoona on May 19, 1886, a son of William J. and Mary Catharine (Riling) Metzgar, and on Oct. 27, 1906, at Altoona married Maude L. Kuhn, who died in January 1948. Surviving are two children, Mrs. Dorothy V. Coulter, of Pinellas Park, Fla., and Donald W. Metzgar of Los Angeles, Calif.; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a brother and a sister, Miss Clara R. Metzgar and Herbert M., both of 1112 20th Ave. Friends will be received in the Replogle Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
