METZKER [photo] Fall Is Fatal to Aged Woman In Martinsburg Mrs. Sara Elizabeth (Stiffler) Metzker, aged 98, Martinsburg's oldest resident and one of Blair county's oldest citizens, died at her home Sunday afternoon at 3.45 o'clock. Mrs. Metzker suffered a fall in her bedroom Friday, Aug. 1, and had been confined to her bed since. She was a member of a prominent Frankstown township pioneer family, being born in West Loop June 19, 1849, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Leighty) Stiffler. She grew to womanhood in the Loop and at Canoe Creek where the family later moved. She was married to Isaac D. Metzker Feb. 22, 1876, at Canoe Creek. He preceded her in death at Martinsburg more than 30 years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Metzker resided for some years in Altoona where Mr. Metzker was employed as a carpenter by a brother-in-law, Jacob H. Nofsker, planing mill operator and building contractor. Mr. and Mrs. Metzker served as superintendent and matron of a home for the aged at Carlisle for some years and then returned to Martinsburg where they served in the same capacity at the Morrisons Cove Home for the Aged. They purchased a farm between Martinsburg and Fredericksburg which they operated until they erected a home in Martinsburg shortly before Mr. Metzker's death on April 28, 1916. Mrs. Metzker was educated in the Frankstown township public schools and was an active member of the Memorial Church of the Brethren. Of the large family of which she was a member, there survives only one brother, George R. Stiffler of Geeseytown. There are a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the K. R. Miller funeral home, Martinsburg, after 4 o'clock this afternoon until 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon when the body will be taken to the Memorial Church of the Brethren.
