Metzler-Stump of Homewood Retirement Center, Martinsburg, died Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Homewood following an extended illness. She was born June 9, 1926 in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late William and Mabel (Evers) Preston. Ruth married Larry D. Stump on February 24, 1984 in Petersburg, PA. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Altoona. Ruth retired in 1987 as a Seventh Grade History Teacher from Tyrone School District with 40 years of service. She was a 1943 graduate of Snow Shoe High School and a 1947 graduate of Lock Haven University receiving a BS degree in Education. Ruth enjoyed swimming, sewing, dancing and collecting antiques, especially glass. She is survived by her husband of Martinsburg, stepchildren, Cosette Torrance and Machelle Wineland both of Goshen, IN, Annette Worley of Pittsburgh, Tom Stump of Sheffield Lake, OH; 10 step-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter and three nieces, Carla Frankenfield of Cumberland, MD, Lisa Tornello of Teaneck, NJ and Pam Frankenfield of Baltimore, MD. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 18, 2008 and 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 2309 Broad Avenue, Altoona. An 11 a.m. funeral service will be held Tuesday, officiated by Rev. Charles L. Baughman. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 919 N. Michigan Avenue, Suite 1000, Chicago, IL 60611 or the American Cancer Society, 1004 N.
