He was born Jan. 22, 1870, at Schmieheim, Baden, Germany, the son of Christian and Christina (Gleichert) Meyer. His wife, Katherine (Haller) Meyer, died April, 1925. Mr. Meyer was a locomotive engineer for the Pennsylvania railroad from 1887 until his retirement in 1937. He was a member of the Emanuel Evangelical United Brethren church since 1882 and a charter member of division 730, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Surviving are three daughters, Mr. John Hengstler and Mrs. Frank Gleichert, both of Altoona, and Mrs. Eugene Lang of Berwyn; four sons, William C., George H., Charles F. and Fred P., all of Altoona; one brother, Ernest of Altoona; a sister, Miss Mary Meyer of Washington, D.C.; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One son, John M., died in 1927 and one grandchild also preceded him in death. Friends will be received at the Gilden-Barton funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening. S. Clay Shaffer, assisted by Rev. G. S. Gratz of Sandusky, O., former Altoona minister. Friends are being received at the Gilden-Barton funeral home from 7 o'clock this evening until noon Wednesday when the body will lie in state at the church until time of service.
