Splendid Citizen Passed To His Reward On Thursday evening at 9.50 o'clock, the spirit life of G. Wood Miller, one of Tyrone's very best citizens, passed into the eternal world. Nine days ago Mr. Miller contracted a heavy cold which terminated in a severe attack of pneumonia. His sturdy, robust constitution battled strenuously with the disease, but lost. Thursday morning he seemed better, and his home folks had great hopes that the crisis had been passed and that he would get well again. God, in wise providence, ruled otherwise and towards evening he grew much weaker and fell asleep at the above time. Thus has passed away from our midst, a man who was held in high esteem by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. His home life and church affiliations were all that could desired of a man and in these places he will be wonderfully missed. G. Wood Miller was a son of John M. (deceased) and Mrs. Maria Miller. He was born at the Miller homestead near Stormstown, which in early youth he conducted, after the death of his father, thirty years ago. A few years later he engaged in a successful business at Penfield, Clearfield County. Five years later, he returned to the old homestead, investing his money in an adjoining farm and the marketing of his neighbors farm commodities with which he formed the nucleus of many successful enterprises. Later he invested in several adjoining timber tracts and became a prominent lumberman, and by honesty, industry and enterprise, built business relationships, covering the vicinity between Bellefonte, State College and Altoona. A few years later he came to Tyrone and investing in town property, until he had become one of the prominent real estate owners in Tyrone, having properties on Lincoln, Logan and Cameron avenues; also much money invested in farm real estate, farm products, lumber, clay and coal. He was a devoted and active member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Stormstown. He was also a member of the Modern Woodman, the Royal Arcanum, and the Commercial Travelers Association. Surviving to mourn his death is his aged mother, Mrs. Maria Miller, at the old homestead at Stormstown, and the following brothers and sisters: Watt, Ellis, Mrs. T. J. Gates, and Miss Jean, of Tyrone, and Miss Candice, of Stormstown. Another sister, Mrs. N. J. Johnson, died about three years ago, at Penfield. The funeral services will be held a the residence of T. J. Gates on Lincoln avenue on Saturday afternoon at 1.00 o'clock, after which the body will be taken on the 2.30 train to his mother's home. Short services will be held at the Miller home at 11 a. m. Monday, followed by public services and interment at Ross church at one o'clock. The services will be in charge of Rev. W. W. Hartman of Tyrone, and Rev. Mr. Lawson of Stormstown.
