Unnoticed by his wife, who was working about in the kitchen, Miller secluded himself at the bottom of the flight of stairs leading to the second story of his home and placing the rifle between his knees and pointing the weapon point blank at his forehead evidently discharged the weapon by pulling the trigger with one of his hands. Mrs. Miller was drawn to the scene by the noise of the explosion and found her husband in an unconscious condition at the foot of the steps. The Millers reside near the home of Professor Miles W. Black, principal of the Garfield school, and Professor Black and one or two other neighbors were summoned. Dr. Edward Loudon of south Altoona was called but Miller just gasped his last when the physician arrived at 11.45 o'clock. The coroner also was called and after making an investigation announced that no inquest would be held. Miller formerly worked for the Pennsy and about three years ago sustained an injury to his spine which later resulted in almost complete paralysis of both lower limbs. He lived near Eldorado for the past eight years. The dead man is survived by his widow and a small daughter, Helen who with a number of neighbor children were playing about in the house at the time of the shooting this morning. Miller also has a brother, Lemuel Miller who resides in Llyswen. He was a member of the Temple Lutheran church. Altoona Times, Altoona, Pa., Friday Morning, December 27, 1918
