SCOTT MILLER, Chief train despatcher [sic] of the Pennsylvania railroad company, died at his home on Sixth avenue near Road street, this morning at 2:30 o'clock, from the effects of a tumor on the brain. He had been in ill health for some time and had been confined to his home for the past month. The deceased was born October 27, 1847. He entered the employ of the Pennsylvania railroad company in 1866 as a car inspector. In 1868 he became a brakeman in the yard, being promoted to conductor's position a few years later. Mr. Miller was appointed chief despatcher in the Altoona yard in 1880 and held that position until ill health compelled him to relinquish work. The deceased was a veteran of the late war, being wounded at the battle of Gettysburg. He is survived by his wife and three children: Carrie, Gertie and Walter. The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, services to be held at the house; interment in Fairview cemetery. Altoona Mirror, August 7, 1896
