Death Relieved William Miller, a Quarryman, from His Agony. The Tribune's Williamsburg correspondent sends the following account of an accident which had a fatal termination. On Tuesday, December 12, William Miller, an employe in the quarries, was the victim of a fatal accident. A hole had been made ready for a blast and he was filling it, the keg of powder being close by. From this he had taken five or six quarts, pouring it into the hole. He spilled some of it, and it was when he set fire to the fuse that the accident occurred. In some manner his overalls caught fire and in putting out the flames sparks fell on the scattered powder or in the keg. An explosion followed, and he was terribly burned from the hips to his face. Later when his gloves were taken off, the skin and his finger nails came with them. A rope runs out of the quarry over the ledges to protect the workmen, and Mr. Miller used this means of getting to a place of safety, even while his clothing was burning. Fellow employes took him to his home, where his wounds were dressed. All possible was done for him, but he suffered greatly and died at 3 o'clock yesterday morning. He leaves a wife and wife children. Funeral will take place Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Morning Tribune, Friday, December 15, 1899
