All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ POLICE PROBE DROWNING OF NORTHWOOD MAN State Police at Rockview barracks are continuing an investigation of the drowning of a Northwood man at Upper Bald Eagle while Centre county Coroner John H. Weber, Milesburg, placed the cause of death officially as asphyxia, the result of fluids and mucus causing stoppage of air in the bronchial tubes. Police identified the body found in Big Fill run at 8 a.m. Saturday as that of Blaine E. Mills, 48. The body was found in the stream 12 feet from the nearest bank, face upward, and about 75 feet to the rear of Mountain View Inn, located along Route 350 between Bald Eagle and Philipsburg. The body was discovered by Richard N. Hunter, a resident of the area, who was placing fence posts near the stream when, he spotted it. He notified State police. The body was located about 20 feet upstream from a footbridge crossing the stream. J. L. Heath, owner of the Inn, said that Mills had left the Inn at about 9:30 p.m. Friday after Heath, who was tending bar, refused to serve the victim. Blaine Edward Mills was born at Northwood, Feb. 5, 1907, the son of Harry E. and Daisy M. Reed Mills. Surviving are the parents and two daughters, Mrs. Carl Giglia and Mrs. Daniel Gainey, Buffalo N.Y.; these brothers and sisters: Mrs. Carl Bulick, Mrs. Mildred Kooken, Mrs. William Caber and Ralph Mills, Buffalo, N.Y.; Mrs William Cowher, Mrs. Paul Shellenberger, Tyrone, and Mrs. Melvin McMonagal, Port Matilda. He was of the Brethren faith, and had been employed by Gamble and Gamble, Bolivar, general contractor for the Logan elementary school building. Funeral service will be held at the home at Northwood tomorrow afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock, in charge of the Rev. Budd R. Smith. Burial will be in Grandview cemetery.
