Mills, a native of Hollidaysburg, died at his home at Haverhill, Mass., on Monday, according to the following dispatch in the Boston Herald: Haverhill, January 22. - William W. Mills, one of the three survivors of the old Hale Guards, died today, aged 76, at Kenucket. At Lincoln's first call for troops, Mills, his grandfather, father and two brothers enlisted and remained throughout the war. The Hale Guard was a military company prior to the war and was transformed into Company D of the Fifth Massachusetts infantry. The other two survivors of the guard are Albert Ray and George S. Dodge. Mr. Mills was a native of Hollidaysburg, Pa. He leaves a widow and one daughter. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Thursday Morning, January 25, 1917
