B. Mingle, of Lincoln avenue, became known. The young man, who was an ensign in the Naval Reserve force, was killed in a seaplane accident at Pensacola, Florida yesterday according to a telegram received from the Commandmant at that place. Deceased was one of the town's most sterling young men, loved by all with whom he came in contact and his demise will be mourned by many. A full obituary will appear in the next issue. MINGLE, JR., KILLED IN ACCIDENT Flying in Naval Machine With Two Comrades, the Plane Drops - All Killed As stated in Saturday's issue, David Blair Mingle, Jr., only son of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Mingle, of 1029 Lincoln avenue, was killed in a seaplane accident at Pensacola, Florida, on Friday. The young man, who was an Ensign in the Naval Reserve forces, was flying with two other comrades in one of the large naval machines and had attained a height of about 800 feet when the plane was seen to suddenly drop and all three met instant death. Deceased was born in Tyrone, Pa., and had he lived until next Friday would have been twenty-two years old. All of his life was spent in this vicinity. After pursuing his course at Tyrone High school he entered Kiskiminetas academy where he prepared for college. From there he became a student at Pennsylvania State College where he was enrolled up until the time of his entrance into the United States service. At this institution he was one of the most prominent athletes being captain of the baseball team for one year and also president of the College Athletic association. He was one of Tyrone's best liked and most promising young men. Possessing a loving disposition he easily made friends with all and this friendship once attained was never lost. He was also affiliated with the Boy Scout organization of this town and is the first member to make the supreme sacrifice. Word was received from the Commandmant at Pensacola yesterday stating that the remains were being shipped at 10 a.m. and pending the arrival here the funeral arrangements have not been made. Blair Mingle, jr., who was killed in a seaplane accident at Pensacola, Fla., last Friday, arrived in town yesterday morning. The body was accompanied by Ensign W. G. Plumb, a roommate and warm friend of the deceased. Funeral services will take place at the late home, 1029 Lincoln avenue at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. S. Fasick, D.D., pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church, assisted by Rev. R. J. Lloyd, pastor of the Birmingham Presbyterian church. Altoona Tribune, Thursday, February 13, 1919
