MITCHELL LOSES LIFE IN FRANCE A telegram was received by Mrs. Emma B. Mitchell, of 1612 Twelfth avenue on Sunday, from the war department, announcing the death of her son, Harry E. Mitchell, who had been killed in battle, somewhere in France. The telegram briefly stated that the young man had died on Nov. 2 of wounds received in action. The young man was a native of Altoona, the family for many years residing at 2713 West Chestnut avenue, and was born April 27, 1892, and on April 3, 1918, went to Camp Lee, Virginia, with a contingent of soldiers from Altoona. The latter part of May he was sent overseas, as a private in Company G, 319th infantry. His mother received a letter just recently which was written on Oct. 15. The soldier in the letter stated that he had been on the firing line frequently the past few weeks but that he had come out unharmed. His mother, three sisters, Mrs. Edna Curry and Anna and Myra Mitchell, all of this city, and a brother, Charles, in the United States service, survive. Before entering the army he was employed as a brakeman on the Middle division and made his home with his mother. The mother had made up a nice Christmas box for her soldier son and late Saturday evening mailed it at the local postoffice. Altoona Times, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday Morning, November 26, 1918
