MOCK IS ONE OF THE DEAD Altoona Mother Gets Word That Her Son Has Fallen on Battlefield WAS IN 28TH REG. REGULAR ARMY Arthur C. Mock, son of Mrs. Florence Mock, of 1006 Green avenue, a corporal in Company H, Twenty-eighth infantry, is one of the first Altoona boys to be killed in action during the recent great drive of the allies in France, a telegram announcing the death of the soldier on July 18 being received by the mother yesterday afternoon. The telegram, received from Adjutant General McClain follows: Deeply regret to inform you that Corporal Arthur C. Mock, infantry, is officially reported as killed in action July 18. Corporal Mock enlisted in Altoona May 8, 1917 and he served in France for nearly one year. He sailed overseas June 1917, going direct to the Twenty- eighth infantry regular army from Columbus barracks. He was unable to get a furlough home after his enlistment. The young hero was aged 19 years and was born in this city. He was a member of the First Baptist church and of the P.O.S. of A. He formerly worked in the No. 3 erecting shop of the Pennsy. Surviving are the mother and the following brothers and sisters: Sergeant Clarence Mock, of Company G, One Hundred and Eleventh infantry, now in France; Frank, of Martinsburg, Jacob, of Hollidaysburg, John and Ranson, both of Altoona, Melvin, at home, and Anna and Sarah, both at home.
