(1912 – 1997) James Taylor Molson, Sr. died at Woodland Memorial Hospital, in Woodland, on February 12, 1997, at the age of 84. Born on July 16, 1912, in Bellwood, Penn., he was the only child of Edward Banks Molson and Anna Taylor Molson, who preceded him in death. He came to California in 1926 with his mother. They first lived in Oakland, and then Berkeley, before relocating to Woodland in 1941. His occupation was that of a truck driver. He drove for Pete Ramponi, Valley Livestock, George Gray and Morris Draying where he drove from Los Angeles to Seattle on a regular basis. After hauling everything from livestock to lumber, he went to work for the California Department of Education, Surplus and Supplies, where he was employed for 22 years. He retired in 1977. He received a commendation for driving over 170,000 miles without a chargeable accident from 1958 to 1962. Not satisfied with retired life, he decided to drive a truck again, hauling melons until he finally chose to "hang up" his steering wheel, relatives say. In 1955, he received his private pilot’s license. He ferried a plane from Kansas to California, his only cross-county flight. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. During his lifetime, he owned four different planes that were hangared at Watts Airport in Woodland. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association for many years. He was awarded a life membership after completing 50 years in the Prince Hall Lodge, No. 74, in the Free and Accepted Masons in 1994. He held a Restricted Radiotelephone Operator’s Permit.
