Moore, 93, of Flinton, formerly of Altoona and Tyrone, died Sunday, May 21, 2006 at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Campus, after a brief illness of congestive heart failure. He was born Sunday, January 19, 1913 in Altoona, the son of the late William Moore and Jennie Hanlon. He graduated from Altoona in 1930 and attended Penn State and the Philadelphia School of Industrial Art. Mr. Moore was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Tyrone. He had been employed as a teacher at Grier School and Altoona High School. Surviving are three nieces, Joanne Cannistraci of Tyrone, Barbara Latchford of Hollidaysburg and Susan Houser of Columbus, Ohio and loving friends Mark and Barbara Haigh and their son John, with whom he resided. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother W. Howard Moore, sister Jane Yon, half sister Margaret Boyd, half brother James Algeo and nephew David Yon. He was a US Army veteran of WWII, serving as first Lieutenant. During his time in the military, he served in the office of Gen. George Patton. He retired as an art teacher from Grier School, Birmingham and also taught art at Altoona High School. Andrew was a well-known artist in the area and had been painting for more than 80 years. In 2004, he was inducted into the Blair County Arts Hall of Fame. He taught art in the Altoona and Tyrone areas for many years. Some of his most famous students were Janet Blair and Joe Servello. He was also an outstanding vocalist, having sung in many local churches, as well as the Temple, and while traveling with a local choir sang before the pope at St. Peter's in Rome. Andrew's first love was painting, but he loved singing, traveling and people. He touched the lives of many people and leaves behind hundreds of friends. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing, as Andrew donated his body to science. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 830 Washington Ave., Tyrone. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Trinity Episcopal Church, 830 Washington Ave., Tyrone, Pa. 16686. The Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home Inc. of Irvona is in charge of arrangements.
