A letter received in this city from Sacramento, Cal., announces the death of John Morgan, a former resident of Hollidaysburg, and a brother of Martin Morgan, of the county capital, and Rogers Morgan, of this city. Death was caused by a pinch or grip of the arm by an old friend who thus manifested his friendship. The injury caused a distortion of the sinews and flesh which resulted fatally. Mr. Morgan left Hollidaysburg in 1858, when he was a young man. At Leavenworth, Kan., he joined the federal expedition under General Albert Sidney Johnston, which went to Utah to suppress the Mormons. From there he journeyed overland to California and engaged in mining for a number of years. Later he was in rail road work and at the time of his death was a passenger engineer in the employ of the Southern Pacific. He was aged 63 years and is survived by his wife and two married daughters. He was of a genial disposition and very popular. Morning Tribune, Monday, November 20, 1899
