Long and Patient Suffering From a Severe Affliction Culminates in Death. After a long and trying illness, John C. Morningred died at 5.15 o'clock this morning at his home on East Twelfth street, aged 40 years, 6 months and 5 days. His illness dated from more than a year ago when a cancerous tumor appeared upon his neck, which he had removed by an operation in April, 1903. The ailment recurred, however, and last October a second operation was performed. The disease could not be stayed even with the most skilled treatment, and since November Mr. Morningred had been confined to his house almost continuously, steadily sinking until the end came. John Charles Morningred was born at Pittsburg, November 22, 1863. Soon afterward his family removed to Altoona, where most of his life was spent. About fourteen years ago Mr. Morningred came to Tyrone as tinner for the Pennsylvania railroad on the Tyrone division and he held that position until his final illness. He was an exemplary man, devoted to home and friends, a consistent Christian believer, and an excellent citizen. Mr. Morningred possessed a special talent for music and many is the life that he has made happier by his use of that talent. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Railroad Relief department and of the Grand Fraternity. In religion he was affiliated with St. Matthew's Catholic church where he was a regular attendant when in health. On June 15, 1897, Mr. Morningred was united in marriage to Miss Rose McNelis. His wife survives him, together with their two sons, Clement and Charles. His father, Peter Morningred, resides in Altoona, and eight sisters and one brother also survive, as follows: Miss Mary, of Johnstown; Edward, of Massachusetts; Mrs. Emma Bevins, of Newark, N.J.; Mrs. Kate Breth, Mrs. Josephine Black, Mrs. Ida White, and Misses Clara, Christina and Gertrude, all of Altoona. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon from St. Matthew's Catholic church, Rev. G. M. Kelly officiating. Interment in Oak Grove cemetery.
