V., will observe with deep regret the name of Lieutenant P. Morris, who fell in the battle of Gettysburg, on Thursday, the 2d inst. Lieut. Morris was a citizen of Altoona, and served as a soldier in the Mexican war. On the breaking out of the rebellion he enlisted in the three months' service, and at the expiration of his term reenlisted for three years in company M, in which he held the position of sergeant, but was subsequently promoted to a Lieutenancy. He participated in all the battles of the Peninsula and Virginia, and was shot through the head whilst gallantly charging the enemy in the desperate battle of Gettysburg. He was a gallant and brave soldier, and kind hearted and generous to a fault. Although past the age when men most delight in the pomp and circumstance of war, his patriotism led him to unite with the army of the Union, and he nobly died whilst battling for the preservation of his country and the honor of its flag. Long may his memory live. Democratic Standard, Hollidaysburg, Pa., Wednesday, July 15, 1863 Hoenstine, Floyd G., Soldiers of Blair County - Morris, Patrick, 2Lt. M, 62 Pa.
