Mumps and tonsillitis caused his death. He contracted mumps several days ago, and on Saturday left his boarding house in Greenwood, going to the city to consult a physician. Obtaining little or no relief from the treatment, he decided yesterday morning to go to the hospital. He arrived there about 10 o'clock and after an examination, his case was diagnosed as mumps and tonsillitis, and he was ordered to bed. He gasped his last just as a nurse was handing him a drink of water. He was a very corpulent man, and it is presumed that his throat closed up and he smothered to death. Mr. Mountain was born at Clappertown, April 22, 1849, being a son of Samuel and Nancy Mountain, deceased. He was a man of powerful physique and followed saw-milling all his life. He was married to Abigail Wertz. Five children were born to this union. The wife and three of the children are dead. Those surviving are: Clarence, of 720 East Crawford avenue, Altoona and Mrs., Jennie Prough, who resides on the farm in the Loop, where Mr. Mountain resided most of his life. He is also survived by two brothers as follows: David, of Frankstown, and Samuel, of Pinecroft. He was a member of the Mennonite church in the Loop. The remains were taken to the morgue of Undertaker Thomas B. McFarland by Undertakers Lafferty and Tobias yesterday afternoon, where they were prepared for burial. The body will be taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Prough, in the Loop, where funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in the cemetery at Geeseytown.
