Murray, who resided with his son-in law, Henry Ward, at 1423 Ninth avenue, died at 6 o'clock Tuesday evening, after an illness of some five or six months' duration, due to gangrene of the foot. Mr. Murray was born May 5, 1817, and at the time of his death was aged 69 years, 3 months and 11 days. Previous to his removal to this city, he was a resident of Chambersburg and an engineer on the Cumberland Valley railroad, having served that corporation for thirty-seven years and having been one of the oldest engineers in the employ of that company. His wife died March 4, 1874, and two years later he came to this city to be with his children who reside here. Mr. Murray, after removal here, secured employment in round house No. 3, which position he retained until failing health compelled him to abandon work. He was a faithful employe and well liked by his associates. The deceased leaves six children to mourn his death. There are Mary Ellen, wife of Henry Ward, of this city; Samuel, of Harrisburg; Kate, wife of Adam Seiple, of Chambersburg; George, of Chambersburg, William, of Reading, and David R., of this city. Mr. Murray was a member of the Pennsylvania Railroad Relief Fund. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Thursday, August 19, 1886, page 3
