Albert Myers Was Run Down by an Engine at Fourth Street Last Night and Fatally Injured. Albert Myers, a 15-year-old school boy, was run down by a yard engine at Fourth street last evening at 8 o'clock and received injuries which caused his death at the hospital several hours later. The boy left his home, 400 spruce avenue, Logantown, shortly after 5 o'clock, telling his family that he was going to attend services at St. Mark's [sic] Catholic church. Later in the evening he met George Coulter, and together they crossed Fourth street bridge to meet a friend at Ninth avenue. The friend was not there and the boys crossed the tracks to RO tower, a short distance west of Fourth street. They stayed about the tower for a short time, when Myers started for Ninth avenue, calling to Coulter to hurry along. Coulter saw an engine approaching and called to his companion to "look out," but the warning came too late. Myers stepped in front of the engine and was hurled to the track beneath the wheels and badly mangled. Young Coulter, a few yards away, witnessed the terrible sight. He quickly summoned help, and the unfortunate boy was carried to RO tower. The ambulance was summoned and he was removed to the hospital, where an examination showed that his left leg was ground completely off below the knee, his left hand was crushed, the right side of his mouth was torn to his right ear and he received a compound fracture of the skull at the base of the brain. His widowed mother, sisters and brothers were notified of the accident and came to the hospital. The boy regained consciousness once and recognized them all. He evidently knew he was dying, but met death bravely. At 1.25 o'clock this morning he passed quietly away. Albert Myers was born in Altoona on November 1, 1882. He attended the Seventh ward school. Besides his mother, Mrs. Lizzie Myers, he is survived by two brothers and two sisters, Andrew, George, Rose and Annie Myers, all living at home. He was a member of St. Mary's church. The funeral will leave his late home at 8:20 o'clock Wednesday morning and proceed to St. Mary's Catholic church, where mass will be celebrated, interment in St. Mary's cemetery.
