We are sorry to note that G. L. Myers, the banker, is very seriously ill at his home, 1300 Seventeenth avenue. Mr. Myers has been confined to his home by a complication of diseases for sometime past but lately the case has taken a very serious turn and he is scarcely expected to recover. Friends were denied permission to see him today, so low is his condition. This afternoon his physician stated that his death was but a matter of a few hours. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Saturday Evening, April 15, 1893 George Lewis Myers, Whose fatal illness was mentioned in the Mirror on Saturday, died at his residence, 1300 Seventeenth avenue, at 8:23 o'clock last evening. Death was the result of a complication of diseases, which medical science and careful nursing could not overcome. He was conscious to the last and his passing away was peaceful. George Lewis Myers was born in Union county on November 26, 1835, being the son of Grabill and Magdalene Myers. In early years he clerked in the store of George Guyer, at Warriorsmark, Huntingdon county, from there going to Somerset county where he engaged in business at Myer's Mill. He next took up his residence in Blair county. During the first year of his residence in this county he taught school at Kittanning Point, and from that time until his death resided in our near Altoona. He was at one time agent for the Adams Express company in this city; later he engaged in the shoe business, and afterwards in the grocery business. Some time after the organization of the Altoona bank he was elected one of its directors, a position which he held at the time of his death. For over twenty years he was a member of the First Presbyterian church of this city, and for many years was a member of the choir. As he was a thorough Christian so also was he a good friend. He was interested in all departments of church work, and a faithful member of the Young Men's Christian association. On March 17, 1863, Mr. Myers was married at Huntingdon, to Miss Mary McCartney of this city. The sorrow-stricken widow survives him as do also two children, Charles S. Myers, of the wholesale tobacco firm of Myers & Blake, Eleventh avenue, and Lottie, wife of Edward O. Geesey. He also leaves the following brothers and sisters: Harry Myers of Warriorsmark Valley, Mrs. Rebecca Myers of Allegheny City, and Mrs. Caroline Maurer of Altoona. One sister, Mrs. Harriet Yingling preceded Mr. Myers to the tomb, as did also his parents. The funeral will take place Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in Fairview cemetery.
