He was a retired Pennsylvania Railroad engineer and a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen of Cresson(?). He had been a resident here for the past 19 years. Surviving is a sister Miss Anita Casselberry, Linden, Ky., and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Paul R. Drye and Mrs. Betty Brown, and two brothers, Leonard M. and H. Albert, all of the city. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and LCBA. Surviving are his wife, his parents and two sisters and a brother, Carroll Ann of Altoona, Mrs. Donna Wallace of Delmont, and Jay, in Ohio. Mr. Kagarise was last employed as a machinist for Toby's Lawn Service. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Cleona. KAISER JR. Of 313 E. Southey Ave., who died unexpectedly yesterday morning in class at the Pennsylvania State University, where he was a graduate student, was born in Harrisburg on Aug. 1, 1940, a son of Philip J. and Mary Ann (Breznay) Kaiser. Surviving are his father, step-mother, the former Marian (Feeney) Schrenk; two brothers, Richard J. and John T., at home, and two step-brothers, Edward L. KARLIE Formerly of 1300 Pleasant Valley Blvd., died this morning, Nov. 9, 1973, at Valley View. Mr. Karlie retired in January 1949 from the PRR after 45 years' service. He was born Jan. 19, 1883, in Canton, Zurich, Switzerland, a son of Jean and Rosine Karlie, and on Nov. 12, 1905, married Frances Schuetz, who died July 22, 1959. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lydia Whitehouse of Hollidaysburg; five grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Hilda Schanz of Altoona. A niece, Miss Catherine Shultz of Altoona, was reared in the home. He was born Sept. 22, 1889, at Baden, Germany, son of Philip and Friederika (Gonter) Klobetanz, and married Josephine E. Huber in Altoona on June 14, 1916. His wife died Aug. 21, 1959. Surviving are three children, Mrs. Ruth W. Weir of Endwell, N.Y., Norman O. of Altoona and Harold E. of Hollidaysburg; seven grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Marie Long of Altoona. Mr. Klobetanz retired from the PRR passenger shop at Seventh Street in 1956, after 48 years' service. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church. He was born in Altoona on Sept. 26, 1881, a son of George and Margueritte (Schuler) Koelle, and was married to Caroline Mae Limbert, who died June 11, 1970. Surviving are two sons, Robert E. of Carson Valley and Norman R. of Juniata, and three grandchildren. Mr. Koelle retired in 1941 as a carman for the PRR. He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Juniata, and the Men's Bible Class. KOENING Of 178 E. 5th Ave., Bellefonte died in West Park Manor Nursing Home, State College, following an extended illness. He was born July 4, 1909, at Altoona, a son of Fredolin J. and Caroline (Noll) Koening, and in 1922 married the former Theresa Seprish of Bellefonte, who died in 1957. Three children survive: Herman J. of Innsbruck, Austria, Mrs. Robert Schreffler of Bellefonte and Francis W. of Pittsburgh, along with a brother, Paul V. of Altoona, and two grandchildren. Mr. Koening was a member of St. John's Catholic Church of Bellefonte, the VFW, American Legion, Undi___ Volunteer Fire Co. and Loyal Order of Moose, all of Bellefonte. He served as a corporal in the Army during World War II with the 30th Depot Supply Squadron. Interment was made today. _____ KOESTNER, Katherine (ACHATZ), 1972 KATHERINE (ACHATZ) KOESTNER Formerly of Altoona, died Thursday, April 20, 1972, in Atlanta, Ga., where she resided for the last 20 years. She was married to Peter Koestner, who preceded her in death. Surviving are four children, Major James E. Sayer of Air Force Base, Mich.; Mrs. Anna Marie Shinn, Mrs. Thomas Stafford and Mrs. Paul Weingierd, all of Atlanta, Ga., 18 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Anna C. Enzbrenner of Altoona, Mrs. Clair Nicol of Atlanta, Ga., Sister M. Annabilis, mother superior of the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor, Cincinnati, Ohio. Mrs. Koestner was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Altoona, LCBA. She will repose at Barton-Stevens Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. _____ KRISE, David, 1978 DAVID KRISE Of Fallentimber, died unexpectedly at 10:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, 1978, in Altoona Hospital. He was a retired coal miner and farmer. Mr. Krise was born Aug. 8, 1893, in Frugality, a son of John T. and Mary E. (Rickard) Krise, and was thrice married, first to Ada Adams and then to Marie Davis, both of whom preceded him in death, and then on Aug. 8, 1939, in St. Mary Magdalene (sorry, end of this obit is not here). _____ KRISE, Hartley G., 1973 HARTLEY G. KRISE Of Fallentimber Rd, died at 8:55 a.m. yesterday, Oct. 2, 1973, in Altoona Hospital after an extended illness. He was born in Fallentimber on Feb. 15, 1917, a son of John C. and Estella (Hartley) Krise, and married Roberta Myers. Surviving are his wife, three children, Mrs. Joy Kaye McIntosh of Duncansville and John and Betsy Jo, at home, and two grandchildren, Mr. Krise, a former building contractor, was employed by the General State Authority. He was a member of Fisk United Methodist Church, Coalport, F&AM Lodge; Scottish Rite bodies of Altoona, and the Odd Fellows. He was an Army veteran of World War II. KURTZ Of 417 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, died at 1:15 a.m. today, Dec. 6, 1973, in J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, where he was admitted Tuesday, after an extended illness. Mr. Kurtz was employed by State Department of Transportation, Hollidaysburg. He was born Aug. 6, 1913, in Huntingdon, a son of Stewart L. and Aida (Geissinger) Kurtz, and married Mary S. Brewster. Surviving are his wife, a son, Atty. Stewart L. of Huntingdon, his father of Huntingdon and two sisters, Mrs. Neal Williams of Slippery Rock and Mrs. H. Paul Cook of Huntingdon. Mr. Kurtz was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Huntingdon, and Jaffa Shrine Temple. He served as treasurer of the Huntingdon County Republican Committee. He was a veteran of World War II. O'Leary, 64, of Hazel Drive, Hollidaysburg, retired physician, died at 10:45 a.m. today, July 29, 1971, in Mercy Hospital, where he had been a patient since July 11, after a long illness. He was a graduate of Jefferson Medical College in 1931 and served on the staff of Ebensburg State Hospital until his health prevented. Dr. O'Leary was a member of the American College of Chest Physicians and of the American Medical Association. He was born in Altoona on May 1, 1907, a son of Dennis J. and Catherine (Duffy) O'Leary, and was twice married, first to Helen O'Leary, who died in 1944, then to Anna Katherine Hughes, who died in 1968. Surviving are a daughter, Miss Mary, at the home, and six brothers and sisters, Atty. Patrick E. of Hollidaysburg, Dr. James M. and Mrs. Eileen J. Dumm of Altoona, Sister Mary Dionysia, IHM, of Marywood College, Scranton, Sister Mary Brigid of Manhasset, N.Y., and Mrs. Rita Spellman of Drexel Hill. Two brothers, Msgr. Joseph D. of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Rev. John C. of State College, preceded him in death. Dr. O'Leary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. _____ SALYARDS, Arthur R., 1996 Arthur R. Salyards, 59, Hollidaysburg, died Saturday morning, April 20, 1996, in Centre County, following an extended illness. He was born Aug. 12, 1936, in Hollidaysburg, the son of Ralph D. and Mary O. (Leopold) Salyards. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served in Germany. Surviving are his wife, M. Virginia; two daughters, Theresa L. Crynock of Cresson and Tina of Colonia Heights, Va.; two sons, Arthur R. Jr. and Shawn, both of Kissimmee, Fla.; four sisters: Helen Metzger of Hollidaysburg, Margaret Stevens of Cross Keys, and Anna Belle White and Mary E. Botteicher, both of Altoona; three brothers: Ralph of Hollidaysburg, Elmer of Ebensburg and Robert of East Freedom; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by the following sisters and brothers: Judy Hoover, Bertha Buchanan, Jerry M., Nelson, Howard, and Carl A. There will be no public viewing. Mulberry St., Martinsburg, died Saturday morning, April 20, 1996, at the Homewood Retirement Center, Martinsburg. He was born April 9, 1906, in Jack's Corner, Hopewell RR 1, the son of William Woodrow and Cinderella (Fink) Spielman. He married Margaret C. Aaron April 30, 1949, in Winchester, Va. Mr. Spielman was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Martinsburg, where he was a member and treasurer of the St. John's Men's Brotherhood. He was a former member of the Bedford Forge United Methodist Church, Bedford County. He retired in 1975 as a toll collector for the Ohio Turnpike Commission, Petersburg, Ohio, with nine years of service. He was previously employed as a toll collector for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. He was also owner and operator of a bus leasing company in Hopewell Township, Bedford County, and was a longtime dairy farmer in Bedford County. Mr. Spielman was a 1927 graduate of Replogle High School, Bedford County, and attended Juniata College, Huntingdon. He enjoyed gardening. Mr. Spielman was a former member of the Martinsburg Booster Association and the Enon Valley Odd Fellows. Surviving are his wife, one niece and three nephews. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's United Church of Christ, Martinsburg, by Pastor L. Hugh Gowan. Interment at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at John C. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg. Mr. Spielman was the last of his immediate family. Preceded in death by three brothers: Vaughn, Roy and Lloyd, and a sister, Margaret Heaton. On April 30, they would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary. The family prefers memorial contributions be given to the St. John's United Church of Christ Memorial Fund or the Homewood Retirement Center.
