AMOS C. NEWMAN  
 
  Amos C. Newman, Vail, Tyrone RD 3, died at 3:24 a.m. today at Tyrone 
Hospital after an extended illness.  
  He was born May 19, 1897 at Port Matilda, a son of Sanford S. and 
Clara Carson Newman.  On April 6, 1949, at Tyrone he was married to 
Dorothy McDonald Maines.  She died Dec. 25, 1971.  
  Surviving are the following step-children: Mrs. Lois M. Myers, 
Phoenix, Ariz.; Jesse Maines, Grazierville; Mrs. Patricia Brower, 
Tyrone, and William J. Maines, Northwood.  Three sisters preceded him 
in death.  He was the last of his immediate family.  He attended Bald 
Eagle United Methodist Church, was a charter member of Howard Gardner 
Post 281 American Legion and was an Army veteran of World War I.  He 
retired after 25 years of service at Westvaco Corp. here in 1964.  
  Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson 
Funeral Home, in charge of the Rev. Francis G. Geiger.  Burial will be 
in Allport Cemetery, Clearfield Co.  Friends will be received at the 
funeral home on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 
to 9 p.m.
