Nicholas Tyrone Herald 4/2/1891 Monday evening at about half past six o'clock, Tyrone was again visited by the reaper death, taking as its victim a much respected lady who was advanced in years—Mrs. Rebecca W. Nicholas, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. David Adams on Washington avenue. She contracted a cold last Saturday morning which gradually grew worse, resulting in congestion of the lungs, causing death. The deceased was born in Chester county, a short distance from Philadelphia on August 8, 1810, being in consequence at the ripe old age of eighty years, seven months and twenty two days of age at the time of her demise. Her maiden name was Rebecca W. Jackson, and in 1835, at Mifflinburg, Union county she was united in marriage to Jacob Nicholas, deceased, of Lancaster county. They remained but a short time in Mifflinburg, when they moved to Pine Grove, Centre county; where they remained for a number of years. They went from there to Philipsburg where they lived only about one and one-half years, thence to Altoona where they enjoyed married life for about eighteen years when Mr. Nicholas passed away. Mrs. Nicholas remained in Altoona, living with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Sell, until about one and one-half years ago when Mrs. Sell died. She then came to Tyrone to live with her only surviving daughter, Mrs. David Adams, where she had lived ever since and last evening very peacefully passed away. She was a very devout Christian lady having been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for the past fifty or sixty years. She was the mother of but three children, all of whom preceded her to the grave except Mrs. David Adams, of this place, who is the only surviving immediate relative of the deceased. Short funeral services were held at the home of her daughter on Washington avenue yesterday afternoon at two o'clock, after which the remains were taken on the 3.05 train to Altoona and directly from the station at that place to Fairview cemetery where the interment occurred.
