All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _______________________________________________ JACOB NICKOLA Of 716 Crawford avenue, retired employ of the Altoona works, died at his home at 10.53 o'clock this morning after having been bedfast for the past eight weeks and ill for the preceding six months. He was born in Baden, Germany, on May 18, 1862, a son of Matthew and Selma Nickola, and came to this country and to Altoona in 1881 with his parents. On Jan. 10, 1882, he entered the service of the railroad company, retiring on June 1, 1927, from the Juniata shops as a machinist after forty-five years' employment. Mr. Nickola married Miss Anna Berndt, who died on April 30, 1920. Surviving are seven sons and daughters, Misses Emma and Flora, at home, Mrs. Bertha Kinzle, Fred, Mrs. Anna Long, Oscar G., and Mrs. Grace Yeager, all of the city; eight grandchildren, one sister and two brothers, Mrs. John Gieg, Fred and William Nickola, all of the city. Mr. Nickola was a member of St. James Lutheran church and a charter member of the Concordia Singing society. Friends will be received at the home. NICKOLA - Funeral services for Jacob Nickola of 716 Crawford avenue will be held at the home at 2.30 o'clock Friday afternoon by Rev. J. F. Flegler of St. James Lutheran church.
