NICODEMUS, One of Martinsburg's best known citizens, died at his home in that place, yesterday morning at 11 o'clock. He was born in South Woodbury township, Bedford county, and was 61 years, 7 months and 4 days old. He married Miss Harriet Wishart on January 10, 1860. His early years were spent in the merchandise business. After retiring he was elected county surveyor and afterwards served as justice of the peace. He was a member of the Methodist church. The deceased is survived by his wife and the following children: W. A. Nicodemus of Durango, Colorado, Misses Cora and Maggie, and Bent [Bert], and two grandchildren, Edith and James McBloskey [McClosky]; also, by a brother, J. C. Nicodemus of Detroit, Michigan, and a half-sister, Mrs. S. H. Mock of Woodbury. Altoona Mirror, January 30, 1896 Note: First name from the 1880 Martinsburg, Blair County, census.
