MARY NICODEMUS Died at her home in Martinsburg at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Her maiden name was Mary Hay, and she was born in Cambria county, February 4, 1803. She was married to John Nicodemus, now deceased, August 10, 1826, and settled in Morrison's Cove, at what is known as the Nicodemus mill, where they cleared the land and erected buildings, thus securing one of the finest farms and the coziest home in the cove. There they lived together until old age compelled them to seek retirement and rest. Mrs. Nicodemus, or "Grandmother," as she was familiarly called, was of a strong, sturdy nature and of a social, genial disposition, having a kindly word for all who came in contact with her in life's way. She is survived by these sons: Jacob S., Levi H., and John H., and one daughter, Mrs. Anna Rupley, wife of Rev. Dr. F. A. Rupley, and quite a number of grandchildren. Funeral Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Altoona Mirror, Wednesday, September 20, 1899, page 8
