"Bud" Noel, age 83, of 100 Ninth Street, Tyrone died Sunday, October 9, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at the Altoona Center for Nursing Care. He was born March 16, 1922 in Tyrone, the son of Calvin and Sophia Johnson Noel and on June 8, 1946 at the First English Lutheran Church was married to Marie Johnson who survives. Also surviving are two children: Dr. Kenneth A. Noel and wife Robin of Imperial and Cynthia, wife of Sheldon Harper of Tyrone; five grandchildren: Amy, wife of Ryan Fleck, Matthew Harper, Shauna Love, Ashley Noel and Kelsey Noel and step-grandchildren: Dustin and Kyle Conrad; Jim and wife Theresa Harper and Elaine Peachey; one great-granddaughter, Lyndsey Fleck and step- great-grandchildren: Haley Conrad, Logan and Connor Harper and Kali Peachey. Also surviving are a sister and brother: Kenneth Noel of Altoona and Pauline, wife of Stanley Riffle of Aliquippa and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Keefer and brother, Calvin Noel. He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church of Tyrone and was a graduate of Tyrone High School Class of 1941. He was a member of the Allegheny Hunting Camp, the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company, Anderson Denny Post No. 4559 VFW and Howard Gardner Post No. 281 American Legion. He was a member of the 1940 Tyrone High School championship football team and served with the United States Marines in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Mr. Noel retired from Westvaco as a painter with the "outside gang" in 1982 after 42 years service. Funeral service for Meryl H. "Bud" Noel will be Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. with Pastor Heather Culuris officiating. Interment with military flag presentation will be made in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
